The Gear housing is also fabricated from high strength steel, which gives it more uniform strength and durability than cast iron. The gear housing is tightly sealed to help prevent corrosion and premature wear of the gears and bearings during intermittent operation.  The gear reducer is designed for both clockwise and counter clockwise rotation. You can significantly extend of the life of the unit by simply changing the direction of rotation periodically.
